Muscle Specific Kinase Antibodies (MUSK) – Referral
Code:
MUSK
Sample Type:
2mL Serum (Gel 5mL Yellow tube)
Ref Ranges/Units:
Normal is Negative.
Normal result = Negative
Turnaround:
4-6 weeks
Frequency of Analysis: Referred to Oxford (sent every day except Friday)
Special Precautions/Comments:
Method: Sent away to: Oxford University Hospital
Interferences: None known
Additional Information:
Indication: Myasthenia Gravis in ACR negative patients.
Background Information: MuSK antibodies are involved in the pathogenesis of acetylcholine receptor antibody negative myasthenia gravis, this is more common in adults than children. MuSK antibodies have been shown to be present in 35-70% of adult Myasthenia patients that have negative acetylcholine receptor antibodies (ACR antibodies) [1].
