In April 2013, the three laboratories of City Hospitals Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead, came together in a collaborative project to develop a single managed service for the patient population of the three acute Trusts and the three Clinical Commissioning Groups of South of Tyne and Wear. The consolidated service has a state-of-the -art multidisciplinary laboratory based at Gateshead, supported by two essential service laboratories at South Tyneside and City Hospitals Sunderland.
