Androstenedione is a steroid produced by the testis, adrenal cortex and ovaries. It is a precursor steroid for testosterone and oestrogens.

It can be useful in the investigation of signs of hyperandrogenism and raised testosterone levels, and for the diagnosis and managements of disorders of steroid synthesis.
