Protein S is one of the natural anticoagulants. It is a vitamin dependant plasma glycoprotein and is a co-factor to Protein C in the inactivation of Factors Va and VIIIa. Deficiencies in Protein S lead to an increased thrombotic risk. Protein S levels fall phsyioloigcally during pregancy. It is assayed as part of the Thrombophilia Screen.
