Additional Information:
The presence of a significant amounts of free light chains in the urine (known as Bence Jones protein) may indicate a B cell lymphoproliferative disease such as multiple myeloma. Urine protein electrophoresis is used in conjunction with serum protein electrophoresis to screen for myeloma. Serum free light chains (SFLC) is an alternative method which can be used to investigate and quantify any free light chains in the serum. Presence of an intact monoclonal protein may indicate renal impairment.
